Mashable: You can learn how to fingerspell your name and practice the ASL Alphabet using the ASL Alphabet Lens.
You can now learn American Sign Language with the help of a new Snapchat lens being released by Snap. In partnership with SignAll, Snapchat is launching an ASL Alphabet Lens, which can translate sign language into text.
You can learn how to fingerspell your name and practice the ASL alphabet using the ASL Alphabet Lens, which is led by Deaf and hard-of-hearing Snap team members known as "Deafengers," the company explained in an on-the-job blog post.
If you have Snapchat installed on your phone, you can try out the lens here.
Using the hand shapes displayed on the screen as a guide, you can sign with one hand while holding your phone in the other. With the help of the lens, you can practice your fingerspelling and learn which hand shapes go with each letter of the alphabet.
The company said: "We believe that AR can help us communicate in a world where there is a lot of linguistic inequality."
"We look forward to learning more from our community as we strive to continuously improve experiences for everyone on Snapchat," it added.
During the International Week of the Deaf in September, Snapchat released stickers and AR lenses with SignAll.
On Android and iOS, you can use the lens by scanning the Snapcode or searching for "ASL Alphabet" in the Lens Explorer. Snap's motive to use AR remains the same. This is about using augmented reality to help more people communicate online while also expanding Snapchat's audience.
