Mashable: Naila Kiani, a Mountaineer and Dubai resident recently scaled Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest peak on Sunday.

According to the Gulf News, Naila Kiani is continuing to script history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to scale 11 of the 14 highest peaks in the world.

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, the Dubai-based mum made yet another remarkable accomplishment by successfully summiting Makalu, the fifth-highest peak in the world. She has now conquered a total of 11 of the world’s 14 highest mountains, all 8,000-plus metres in height.

The high-altitude mountaineer from the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai summited Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain on Earth, with a summit at an elevation of 8,485 metres (27,838 ft) in her latest achievement.

The final summit push of Makalu reportedly took place the entire Saturday night before she and her team reached the top of the mountain on Sunday morning.

Naila Kiani, who is reportedly a mother to two young children is also believed to be the fastest Pakistani mountaineer, in both the women’s and men’s category. She has scaled all these heights in just under the duration of three years.

She was also recently honoured with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, which is the highest civilian honour awarded to any female athlete in Pakistan.

Last year, Naila Kiani made headlines by scaling seven out of 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in just six months, an achievement made by only 10 mountaineers worldwide in the same year.

Besides being a mountaineer, Naila Kiani is also a competitive boxer. She has a background in Aerospace Engineering from the University of London.
