Mashable: TikTok Pulse, a new advertising platform, will allow advertisers to pay to have their branded postings appear next to the top 4% of TikToks each day.

TikTok announced Wednesday that it is "exploring" its first ad-revenue sharing program, which will pay top creators, prominent personalities, and other publishers whose postings appear next to those ads 50 percent of the money produced from some advertising. If you want to participate in the program, you must have at least 100,000 followers.

TikTok Pulse, a new advertising platform, will allow advertisers to pay to have their branded postings appear next to the top 4% of TikToks each day. Marketers have the option to place their ads next to viral or attention-grabbing content in the program. However, TikTok and its creators would split the cash gained by Pulse ads running against those top postings in a 50/50 ratio.

As part of NewFronts, a week-long series of online media company presentations, the announcements were made.

In recent years, TikTok, the social app for sharing short, wacky videos owned by Chinese startup ByteDance, has expanded in popularity, but worries about privacy, kid safety, user data, and content moderation have arisen in the US and internationally.

It is possible that TikTok creators will be able to profit from their success in the same manner that YouTube has been doing for years. In general, creators keep a bigger portion of the cash generated by their videos on YouTube (though this varies with each video)

Advertisers may buy ad space near a dozen categories of "culturally relevant content on TikTok," including fashion, music, automobiles, cosmetics, sports, television, and movies. That top 4% of posts would be changed every day and based on characteristics including the number of views and how much viewers were engaged with each post, according to the statement.
