Mahsable: Argentina advanced to the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after an exciting 2-1 victory over Australia in the Round of 16.
After an exciting 2-1 victory over Australia in the Round of 16 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Sunday, Argentina advanced to the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Captain Lionel Messi has led the team from the front in what is likely his final World Cup campaign after a shocking 1-2 loss to Saudi Arabia in the team's Group C opening.
In the 2-0 victory over Mexico the following game, he scored the opening goal, a fantastic long-range shot, and assisted on the second.
The 35-year-old football player became the first to provide an assist at each of the World Cups' five tournaments.
He did, however, miss a penalty kick early in the last group-stage encounter against Poland before leading Argentina to a 2-0 victory that meant it would advance as the group winner to the Round of 16.
In the pre-quarterfinal match against Australia, Messi scored his third goal of the tournament to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The goal put him just behind Gabriel Batistuta, the nation's all-time leading scorer of the quadrennial tournament with 10 goals, and overtook Argentine superstar Diego Maradona's eight World Cup goals.
The next time Messi plays will be when Argentina takes on the Netherlands on December 10 in a match for a place in the semifinal and a chance to win its third World Cup.
The Albiceleste prevailed in a penalty shootout following a scoreless draw in the two teams' previous World Cup match eight years ago in Brazil.
