As India celebrated its 75th year of Independence on August 15, the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa joined in the celebrations too. On Sunday evening, Burj Khalifa lit up in the tricolour — saffron, white, and green, to celebrate India’s Independence Day.

The 75th year of celebration of independence has been a significant milestone for India. It was on this day, 75 years ago, when the country gained freedom after a long struggle and started its journey as a free nation.

Videos of the building lit up surfaced on the internet among congratulatory messages from prominent figures. The Consulate in Dubai wrote on Twitter, “Jhanda Uncha Rahe Humara… Spectacular projection of tricolour on the Burj Khalifa #IndependenceDayofIndia.”

Even the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi was soaked in celebrations. The tricolour was hoisted marking India’s 75th Independence Day by Ambassador Pavan Kapoor at the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi.

Amongst the messages, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also sent a congratulatory message to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of his country's Independence Day.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also sent similar messages to President Kovind, and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking on the occasion.

Along with prominent buildings, other places also marked India’s Independence Day. The Abu Dhabi Global Market also lit up in the colours of saffron, white, and green. The ambassador inaugurated the Lulu hypermarket along with MA Yusuffali at the Forsan Mall in Abu Dhabi.

Sharjah and Ajman too saw celebrations to mark the day. Consul Uttam Chand joined by EP Johnson, President of Indian Association Sharjah along with other community members for the celebrations of 75th Independence Day. In Ajman, consul K. Kalimuthu joined the members of India Social Centre and Indian community members for celebrations.
