Abu Dhabi, 01 June 2021: The Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), affiliated to the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED( has announced that the “Made in Abu Dhabi” sign will be added to all industrial licenses issued to factories and manufacturing companies located in Abu Dhabi. The “Made in Abu Dhabi” campaign aims to increase the visibility and brand trustworthiness of all items and organisations bearing this mark.
The IDB has issued a circular to the owners of all industrial facilities, registered in the emirate, concerning the permission to use the official “Made in Abu Dhabi” sign according to the terms of the relevant manual. This ensures that the sign used is appropriate, clear and noticeable on the product. A copy of the manual of instructions can be attained by sending an email to: IDBbackoffice@ded.abudhabi.ae.
H. E. Rashid Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, Undersecretary of the Department, noted that the “Made in Abu Dhabi” campaign, aims to encourage the owners of industrial facilities to place the campaign’s approved sign on their products. This will promote the local product’s competitiveness and supports manufacturers across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in addition to giving the local product manufactured in Abu Dhabi an added value.
H. E. furthermore indicated that the campaign targets putting the “Made in Abu Dhabi” sign on 3340 local products from about 888 factories in Abu Dhabi, with a total investment value of 369.32 billion dirhams. The factories are distributed as follows: 678 factories in Abu Dhabi, 181 factories in Al Ain, and 29 factories in Al Dhafra.
H. E. the Undersecretary of ADDED noted that the “Made in Abu Dhabi” campaign aims to promote the identity of Abu Dhabi’s domestic product. The campaign started by displaying the sign at main sale outlets across the emirate in conjunction with the promotional and outreach campaign. A dedicated Instagram account is set up to post awareness messages promoting the objectives of the campaign, and users are encouraged to engage with this platform.
He also stressed the Department’s keenness to support local manufacturers, small and medium businesses and motivate them to expand their business and investments within various industrial and agricultural production sectors. The campaign is expected to attract more local investors and encouraging entrepreneurship in Abu Dhabi.
H. E. Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director of IDB, said that the owners of industrial facilities can print out the industrial license bearing the “Made in Abu Dhabi” sign from their registered account from the website of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development link https://www.added.gov.ae. He pointed out that the IDB has adopted some changes in respect of the industrial license model, updating the form and content thereof, to be aligned with these new developments and initiatives that have been launched.
In addition, he noted that the IDB is developing a clear mechanism for the method of using ‘Made in Abu Dhabi” sign on the domestic products through its digital services offered through the Abu Dhabi Business Center website. The aim is to help owners of industrial facilities to obtain the badge and affix it on their local product, which in turn contributes to the spread of the trademark and enhances the consumers’ confidence in the domestic product.
H. E. Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, noted that the campaign grants all manufacturers in Abu Dhabi the opportunity to use and display the trademark on their websites, social media platforms, and other marketing platforms and tools. The long-term goal is to enhance the promotion efforts to spread the domestic product of the emirate, which in turn will help strengthen its reputation within the local market and then towards regional and global markets.
H. E. also commended the significant interaction and interest level of the people concerned with the “Made in Abu Dhabi” campaign. This contributed to enhancing the campaign through allowing the use of the sign as a seal on the facility’s industrial license, as well as affixing it on the domestic product in accordance with its manual.
