Saudi Director Haya Al-Suwaid directed a short video film to dispel the negative stereotypes surrounding women drivers.

In support of the Kingdom’s recent decision to allow women to drive, Al-Suwaid used her platform as a director of short films pertaining to social issues in the local scene to show the noble reality of Saudi women driving.

“I believe that when it comes to raising social awareness we should start with the children, the future generation. My video 'Ashanak wa Ashanna' deals with issues relating to children such as child safety in the car,” said Al-Suwaid.

She said many people think that when women will start driving they will create a lot of chaos on the road and be the cause of many accidents.

“The video is shot from the point of view of a school girl. Viewers can see the relationship between a mother and her daughter. The mother goes through the morning routine of preparing her daughter’s lunchbox and backpack. They then go together to the car and the mother sits in the driver’s seat and her daughter in the passenger seat next to her,” said Al-Suwaid.

She added children are exposed to all the negative stuff posted on social media ridiculing women’s ability to drive. The video aims to show the children a different reality of their mothers and sisters driving them to school.
