The solution is the product of a collaboration between RTA and Ericsson.

In a connected age, the UAE has emerged as a hub for integration of the best that technology has to offer, into the public service infrastructure for strengthening digital transactions, security, administration and transportation for its residents. Being a frontrunner in the race to become the Middle East's top smart city, Dubai has also started experimenting with autonomous buses along with cameras oh cabs, while it paves the way for futuristic traveling options like the high-speed hyperloop.

The city's road transport authority has been making waves for going increasingly paperless, using AI to map out routes, and setting up control centres with smart tech to predict traffic snarls, so that they can be prevented. The local organisation has now raised the stakes for cabs in Dubai, by creating a cloud ecosystem where smart vehicles are linked to a mechanism, that gathers data to fuel informed decision making.

Created thanks to a collaboration between global tech major Ericsson and the road transport authority (RTA) in Dubai, the platform will gather info on the usage of public transport in the city. Under the partnership, Ericsson will enhance ops for the RTA via advanced analytics, fleet management and a connected cloud to watch over vehicles.

This cloud service which allows remote fleet management from a single platform on a global scale, will also benefit businesses offering luxury vehicles on rent across the UAE. Information flowing through this mechanism will be secure, and RTA will be able to control existing public transport, while it uses the data to create better strategies for expansion.

Thanks to monitoring mechanisms in place across Dubai, the RTA is already able to respond to road accidents faster, and control centres have been instrumental in reducing congestion. Speaking of deals, Dubai police has also entered a partnership with General Motors to embed sensors on vehicles, which notifies rescue teams about a car crash, in order to avoid casualties.
