The new infections have increased the number of cases across the country to 2,332,692, while the death toll stood at 25,229.
As Iraq reported 515 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, Health Ministry has declared a new wave of the pandemic in the country, according to various reports.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry said, "There is a noticeable increase in the positive cases during the past few days, as well as an increase in the number of infected people in hospitals, which means that Iraq has entered a new pandemic wave.”
According to a Xinhua news agency report, the resurgence of infections is an inevitable outcome of many people not receiving Covid-19 vaccines despite their availability in all health centres in Baghdad and other provinces, as well as the non-adherence to health-protective measures.
The Ministry urged for speedier vaccination and restoration of individual and societal safeguards.
The new infections have increased the number of cases across the country to 2,332,692, while the death toll stood at 25,229.
Since the outbreak of the disease in early 2020, Iraq has carried out 18,691,060 tests, with 6,317 of those being completed in the last 24 hours.
According to the Ministry, a total of 14,420 people were vaccinated in the same period, taking the total number of doses administered to 10,797,872.
