Mashable: Sorry to break your heart!
For quite some time now, there have been rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Al-Hilal. Are the rumours true? Well, Al-Hilal CEO Esteve Calzada has dismissed speculation about CR7 joining the club in time for the Club World Cup. Yes, you read that right.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Esteve Calzada said, "That sounds like science fiction. CR7 is not our player so it's difficult to comment on that. He's not a free agent now, it's not nice to talk about that."
The Portuguese player joined Al Nassr in January 2023 on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Previously, Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, had reacted to reports of CR7 replacing Neymar at Al-Hilal. Brazilian media outlet Esportes (via essentially sports) earlier shared a collage of Ronaldo and Neymar with a headline - 'With an open future, Neymar can be replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Hilal.' She had responded saying, "You only write nonsense, man? You clearly don't know anything about soccer. You could have called me and I'd have taught you about club rivalries over there and what that might be."
On the other hand, Al-Hilal is set to participate in the inaugural edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. Al-Nassr will not be a part of the prestigious tournament. The other teams to qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup are Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Seattle Sounders, and Monterrey. Lionel Messi and his team Inter Miami have also secured its participation in the upcoming Club World Cup.
