As the world celebrated World Environment Day on June 6, Dubai, too, joined in the celebrations in various ways. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority were one of them as they marked the day by organising a number of events and virtual awareness sessions.
Taking to the occasion, the authorities held two virtual sessions wherein a number of government and private agencies took part in the session that focused on raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and its natural resources. In addition to the awareness session, the event also introduced the authority’s employees to the local environment’s rich wildlife, and how to protect it. This was done in cooperation with the Dubai Municipality.
The authority also organised interactive virtual tours within the Innovation Centre, to introduce its departments and its role in promoting innovation in clean technologies to provide clean and sustainable energy. Through the tour, individuals and the public and private sector were urged to adopt a conscious and sustainable lifestyle and to make smart decisions to reduce carbon footprint.
To make the event more meaningful, the team at the centre also planted at the authority’s main centre in the presence of His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Authority, a number of Executive.
Taking to the occasion, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer shared, “The green economy will be a vital industry. In the country, it is necessary to direct our future plans to combine environmental and climate protection with achieving the highest rates of economic sustainability and societal well-being.” The authority works to promote sustainability in all its environmental, social, and economic aspects, and to provide a sustainable model for providing energy and water and supporting a low-carbon economy, to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by His Highness, he shared further.
The authorities aim to provide 75% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, and the 17 sustainable development goals announced by the United Nations for the year 2030.
