The Dubai Maritime City Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation works on regulating and developing the maritime sector in the Emirate of Dubai, through a set of issued legislative regulations in accordance with the highest standards of excellence and quality, in order to modernize the infrastructure of this sector and diversify investment opportunities that will enhance the competitive advantages of the Emirate at the regional and global level.
His Excellency Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority, indicated that the authority is working to create a renewable and safe maritime sector that is capable of meeting the requirements of sustainable economic development in Dubai, by developing effective policies that contribute to the application of the highest standards of maritime safety, and the launch of the best initiatives that are consistent with local and international laws in order to create a safe and sustainable marine environment, suitable for managing operational operations and for the success of marine businesses of all types.
His Excellency explained that the authority is working on regulating the sector of practicing marine activities in Dubai waters, and granting licenses and permits to enhance security and safety aspects, as it worked on issuing 4,000 vessel anchorage permits in the Emirate’s waters during the first half of 2021, where the shipping agent of the ship must apply for a permit for docking ships in the waters of Dubai, and both period and purpose of the docking shall be specified in the permit request.
Sheikh Saeed stated that the authority has accomplished granting 800 marine driving licenses and issuing about 700 marine craft licenses during the same period of this year, which reflects the wide interest in practicing marine activities in the territorial waters of Dubai as a safe, renewable, competitive, sustainable and attractive marine environment.
The Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority pointed out that the authority issued, during the past month, a circular regarding easing restrictions imposed on mooring and practicing marine recreational activities, stressing on the need to follow the recommendations contained in the circular represented in staying away from prohibited areas and privately owned areas, and not obstructing entry lanes to ports, marinas or marine facilities, in addition to ensuring that the movement of other marine crafts are not obstructed.
