Mashable: The Crown Prince of Dubai shared the demo clips on his Instagram stories
Dubai is taking big steps towards the future.
Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum recently announced that self-driving automated taxis will soon be made available to the public.
On Thursday, December 14, 2023, Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan participated in the first-ever demo test ride of an autonomous vehicle, as part of Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy.
Sheikh Hamdan who is also the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, took to his official Instagram stories and shared three video clips of testing a self-driving taxi in Dubai.

“We are launching automated self-driving taxis soon on Dubai’s roads,” the Dubai Crown Prince wrote in the first video clip.
The videos went viral as soon as Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan posted videos of himself participating in the demo session of the automated self-driven taxi.
According to the Gulf News, the video also shows the Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Mattar Al Tayer and Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri joining Sheikh Hamdan in the rear passenger seats.
The 41-year-old Emirati figure also shared a detailed video on his official X account, formerly Twitter, testing the Chevrolet Bolt-based Cruise autonomous vehicle (AV) in the Jumeirah 1 area.

The Dubai Media Office also shared some images on its X account, explaining that testing and validation is an important step towards launching the autonomous self-driving vehicle in the Emirates.

As per the post, in April 2021, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the UAE city will be the first international market for Cruise. This step will help Dubai to become a global leader in adopting future technologies.
