Elon Musk-owned microblogging website 'X' formerly known as Twitter delayed access to links to content on the Reuters, New York Times, as well as competitors such as Bluesky, Facebook, and Instagram.
According to a report by The Washington Post, clicking a hyperlink on X that directed to one of the impacted websites, a delay of approximately five seconds was experienced.

The delay appeared to exclusively pertain to t.co links, a service responsible for processing and shortening links shared on Twitter. As of Tuesday afternoon, the problem seemed to have been resolved, with links opening promptly upon clicking.
On Tuesday, a member of the Hacker News community, a technology forum, shared information regarding a delay in the dissemination of links to the New York Times. The user reported that X initiated the delay on August 4th, following criticism from Musk regarding the publication's coverage of South Africa. Musk accused the publication of endorsing calls for genocide.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Twitter has initiated the process of altering its domain. A user on X, has brought to attention that when sharing a post on an iPhone or iPad through the X application, the URL shows x.com, whereas previously, the URL displayed was twitter.com.
