Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is introducing ‘Hegra After Dark’, a unique experience that depicts the past of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabian land carries rich ancient history and culture that has prevailed over the years, and to pass down the heritage to the future generations, this year, at the Al Ula Season, visitors can experience the same as it celebrates its latest season.

Saudi Arabi’s Al Ula Season is hosting a variety of entertainment and immersive events for tourists and for the very first time, Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is introducing ‘Hegra After Dark’, a unique experience that depicts the past to build a crossing bridge for the new generations and to witness the most prominent elements of the ancient era.

The experience which is being held at night over the weekends until December 4, is a three-and-a-half-hour-long event that aims to give tourists a sensory experience, encompassing taste and sight, and exploring the cosmology and astronomy of the Nabatean civilisation.

Giving the visitors a special and unique experience with the place’s architectural features and the serenity of Hegra and its starry sky, the event is going to take place at Jabal al-Khuraymat, one of the four necropolis areas to have survived.

The tour starts with Awaken the Senses and Enjoy the Silence, wherein visitors can enjoy the beauty of silence underneath the dark sky blanketed with stars as 1,750 candles light up the entrance of Tomb 100, one of the most beautiful in Hegra. Inspired by the Nabateans, the seating areas are immersed in the aroma of incense, to add to the experience.

Onlookers will also get to watch a live show, near the near Tomb of Malkiyun the Diviner, which highlights the importance of crucial moments in history in each of the heritage sites around Hegra, including the story of Queen Shuqailath.

The programme concludes with a stargazing experience, making it a key involvement as the Nabateans considered sky fundamental as deities who had cosmological influence were worshipped and it was used as a guide and tool for navigation and agriculture.

From the welcome drinks, light dinner using ingredients inspired by the Nabateans to the staff uniforms, careful attention has been paid to every detail for the tour. Through this, the event aims to transport visitors back in time to this ancient era.
