The facility has been assembled by the city's water and power authority.
The credit for innovation and adoption of smart solutions in Dubai goes to the proactive approach towards tech on all levels, right from the government and local bodies to students as well as budding entrepreneurs in the city. Organisations like the water and power authority as well as the municipality, have been using AI monitoring, smart metres, drones and satellite tech, in order to pave the way for a sustainable future in the emerging smart city.
Middle East's oasis for innovation has also been using robots for construction, while its neighbouring cities are marching towards affordable housing in the desert, created through 3D printing. But Dubai's water and power body DEWA has taken things to another level after garnering global acclaim for digitisation, by 3D-printing an entire lab for development of drones and robots.
Known for using droids to address customer queries at its facilities and providing gadgets to spot leakages for households, DEWA created the laboratory from components printed on site. This record breaking hub will now be used for creation of innovative flying objects and smarter machines, to provide a futuristic lifestyle in the megacity.
Other than reducing time taken between designing and production, as well as managing construction waste, DEWA seeks to use 3D-printing for generating prototypes and spare parts for Dubai's infrastructure. The cost effective method is being adopted by DEWA, along with other innovations like AI, human-machine interface and cloud computing.
In addition to this record, the organisation behind the world's largest single site solar park, also entered the Guiness book for the single-largest natural gas power plant set up in Jebel Ali.
DEWA's achievement is timely in light of the announcement by the water and power body to build a new headquarter equipped with Internet of Things and AI, among other innovative solutions by 2023.
As for 3D-printing, the technology is being developed to print plant based meat, and is also a game-changer for art thanks to the ability to create accurate replicas of iconic sculptures.
