Mashable: Last month, Google hinted at a dedicated NotebookLM app, and it is almost here. The company just announced that users can now pre-register to get the app. It will be available for both Android and iOS users. Google has already published the app on both the App Store and Google Play Store, however, it isn’t available for download immediately. The app will auto-download for pre-registered users on the day of launch.
Although launched in 2023, NotebookLM has only recently captured widespread attention. The AI-powered research assistant examines source documents, highlights critical details, and finds patterns across topics. It allows the upload of PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, and Google Slides as sources. You can interact with all your files via chat and also ask questions. In addition to this, it also provides in-line citations so that you can verify the sources on the go.
NotebookLM also has this cool feature wherein it allows you to turn your sources into engaging podcasts. The best part is that you can join the podcast and interact with the hosts. Recently, Google extended the language support for this feature to more than 50 languages, maximising its global outreach.
Moreover, pictures posted on Google’s Twitter page give us a peek at the mobile app. The home page contains Recent, Shared, Title, and Downloaded. Below that is a list of notebooks with a play button, which likely indicates the addition of background playback to the Audio Overview feature.

Besides unveiling the Android and iOS app interface, Google also introduced the tablet interface for the app. The beta release of NotebookLM is expected in the coming weeks, with the official launch likely set for May 20, the opening day of Google I/O 2025.
