Mashable: Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari was once the heaviest-living person in the world, weighing a staggering 610 kg, merely at 22. With a BMI of 204, he was unable to walk on his own when his story reached the former Saudi Arabian King Abdullah. The royal highness quickly ordered his hospitalization in Riyadh, the country’s capital in 2013.
It is suggested a group of 30 medical professionals were called upon to monitor Shaari’s health and transport him from Jazan to the King Fahd Medical City. The difficult mission required the authorities to use a forklift specially designed to move Shaari’s bed.

After his arrival in Riyadh, the youngster was subjected to extensive treatment which included gastric bypass surgery and undergoing a tailored diet and strict exercise regime. Shaari reportedly lost nearly half of his body weight within just six months after his admission. But the journey was far away from over. He continued the intensive care and physiotherapy provided by the medical team.
A massive custom-made wheelchair was created to assist Shaari’s mobility which allowed him to participate in physical therapy. Though he required assistance to sit straight, the heaviest man kept going at his regime. It is suggested Shaari smiled and flashed a victory sign after surgery which led the hospital staff to give him the nickname ‘the smiling man.’

When he was 33-year-old Shaari’s weight had been reduced to just 63 kg, proving nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.
