Recently, Instagram introduced a new feature called 'Video Selfie Verification System' to spot fake users.
But, this new feature isn’t effective as it can be easily fooled by a toy. A video has been trending, where Instagram couldn’t identify the barbie doll as fake while scanning.
A Youtuber named Alexander Chaldkidis shared a video that shows how he tricked Instagram by using a barbie doll during the video selfie verification system.
To everyone’s shock, he completed the process successfully without any hiccups or issues.
Similarly, another video was made with a Ken doll and strangely, this attempt was successful too.
An important thing to notice is that the Instagram verification system couldn’t even identify gender.
This security feature was introduced for new users to verify themselves by a short selfie video. The AI system is expected to find out whether a real human is involved or not.
Surprisingly, Instagram has failed to get the job done as this system is quite ineffective.
However, this isn’t the first time, where Instagram’s selfie verification system is in trouble. It was introduced last year and shut down simultaneously due to several errors and complaints.
It looks like Instagram needs some more time to make this AI system successful without any issues.
Instagram is maintaining silence on this issue and it needs to be seen how it handles this awkward situation.
But, there is a possibility that Instagram might bring updates to improve the system or completely remove it until it gets better.
Even phones have faced a similar issue in the past as the facial recognition system was inefficient.
