Mashable: Instagram, the photo and video-sharing social media app owned by Meta Platforms, is shifting its focus towards short-form content instead of long videos.
Adam Mosseri, the company's head, emphasized that this move is aligned with Instagram's core identity of connecting people with friends and helping them explore their interests.
While long-form videos can still be uploaded on the platform, Mosseri reiterated that the priority remains on short videos. In response to a user's inquiry about the possibility of Instagram featuring long-form videos, Mosseri shared a brief video clip on the platform with a clear "no" response, accompanied by an explanation of the company's strategic direction.
According to Mosseri, Instagram serves two purposes: facilitating user connections with friends and allowing them to delve into their interests, and these goals are "symbiotic".

Providing various instances, the head of the platform disclosed that when a user encounters a captivating short video, like Instagram Reels, they frequently share it with friends who share similar interests.
This enables them to engage with others while simultaneously monitoring the content shared by others. Nevertheless, the dynamic shifts when it comes to lengthy videos, resulting in a less mutually beneficial relationship.
According to Mosseri, "If you watch a 10- or 20-minute video, you see less content from friends, you interact with your friends less, and you're actually less likely to send that content or that video to a friend."
Consequently, Instagram will not prioritize long-form video content as it goes against its fundamental identity, as stated by Mosseri.
