As Saudi Arabia celebrates its 91st National Day, today, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) has commemorated the day by launching a collection of Saudi cultural and heritage programs and activities.

To highlight the Kingdom’s diversity, Ithra, under the slogan ‘Melodies of the Homeland’ is marking the day with a series of activities that commenced on September 22 and will go on till September 25.

The National Day activities taking place during the period include interactive cultural activities, music and art performances, traditional local crafts, various workshops, knowledge-based games for all age groups among other interesting events.

One of the interesting exhibitions is the Coffee Tales exhibition, which highlights the practice of farming coffee and the traditions associated with it, particularly in the Jazan region, as well as Saudi Aramco’s efforts to preserve it.

Another exhibition, called Tafaseel, will take its visitors on a cultural journey to exemplify the unity of the people and their interdependence from north to south and east to west.

The Crafts and Arts at Ithra also have workshops that highlight traditional crafts and art created by Saudi artisans. As part of the cultural heritage across the local regions, the colourful exhibition aims to tell stories about the civilizations that inhabited them.

Musical programs have also been taking place as a part of the celebration where musical talents of a group of esteemed musicians will take place at the Plaza. Their music will take visitors through a melodic journey of Saudi songs, which had formed a memory of art in the region.

The program ‘Colors of Kingdom’ where a traveller in his final destination here in Dhahran at the Ithra library will share his journey around the Kingdom as it is recorded in his diary and heart.

Ithra is also hosting Samiri Hail—a unique melodic art and words which reflect the connection of the people with their land. It is related to ‘Al-Mikhlaf’ where the people of the cities and villages used to leave their homes in spring to guide camels. They used to tell their stories in the form of poetry and music, where their memories are remembered throughout the years.
