Mashable: As per Meta, individuals residing in the specified region may be required to remit a sum of $14 in order to access Facebook and Instagram devoid of advertisements.
Meta is reportedly planning the introduction of paid versions of Facebook and Instagram for users residing in the European Union (EU), which would be devoid of advertisements. This move is being considered as a response to the increased scrutiny from regulatory bodies, reports the New York Times.
As per Meta, individuals residing in the specified region may be required to remit a sum of $14 in order to access Facebook and Instagram devoid of advertisements. Failure to comply with this payment will result in the display of advertisements on the free versions of these applications for millions of European Union users.
According to the available information, Meta intends to impose a monthly fee of approximately $10.46 for utilizing a Facebook or Instagram account on a desktop platform. However, if users choose to register through the Google or Apple App Store, the price will increase to EUR 13 ($14).
Furthermore, an additional charge of EUR 6 will be applied for each associated account, thereby ensuring an entirely ad-free experience within these applications.
The firm owned by Zuckerberg has refrained from providing any official statement regarding the aforementioned report. Notably, the company has achieved substantial financial gains through its provision of extensive, highly focused free advertising services to various brands.
Meta has recently been compelled by the European Union to seek consent from its EU users prior to presenting them with personalized advertisements, subsequent to a sequence of regulatory judgments that questioned its primary fiscal approach.
The company has expressed a preference for obtaining user consent prior to disseminating advertisements on their applications, and solely permitting enterprises to engage with them through focused promotional campaigns.
