Visitors and date enthusiasts at Unaizah – Qassim region’s second-biggest city got to witness a date auction that was teamed up with a tour of classic cars. While enthusiasts can taste and get to know the best of dates in the region, they were also demonstrated how dates were transported from Unaizah to other regions of the Kingdom and abroad in the past.
Organised by the Unaizah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the governorate’s administration, the auction attracted shoppers and visitors from various places who devoured some of the best dates.
Unaizah Date Festival which is the second-largest date extravaganza in the entire world has been auctioning dates for decades now. Dates have long been a part of the land that now forms the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where for centuries Bedouin nomads were fuelled by its calories as they traveled back and forth across the Arabian Peninsula.
The chamber’s chairman of the board of directors and general supervisor of the season, Nizar bin Hamad Al-Harkan, praised all parties for making the event a success and meeting the aspirations of dealers, farmers, marketers, shoppers, and traders.
This year as the event saw the participation of youngsters at the auction, Nizar bin Hamad Al-Harkan also highlighted the youth participation in the auction, which was an important economic event in Saudi Arabia and abroad, and the interest of young people in dates.
Dates have been an important item in Saudi Arabia from the economic point of view and it is Saudi Arabia’s biggest and most important agricultural product, providing job opportunities for young people in the sector.
