The program plans to establish 100 national parks within five years and showcase the Kingdom’s natural finery.

While Saudi Arabia boasts of vast deserts and dunes, it also possesses the immense potential of having a green cover, and, thus, to work heavily on the environment, Saudi Arabia has launched a new National Parks Program.

To benefit the environment and local communities, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification launched the program in order to provide sustainable tourism to the Kingdom.

In the program, plans to establish and enhance 100 national parks within five years and showcase the Kingdom’s natural brilliance and treasures were unveiled. The plan also includes the planting of 50 million trees as part of the Saudi Green Initiative.

Through the National Parks Program, the centre aims to attract local as well as foreign visitors, so that it can add to the region’s economy and also add to the deteriorating environmental effects globally.

It will also help to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 development and diversification project and the Saudi Green Initiative, shared Abdul Rahman Al-Dakhil, a spokesman for the centre.

By supporting afforestation efforts and sustainable ecotourism initiatives, the program will help protect the environment in partnership with governmental organisations.

The centre will also focus on planting wild trees that will be carried out by the staff from the centre along with workers from environmental associations and organisations.

Along with focusing on the environment, enhancing biodiversity, protecting endangered plant and animal species, local communities in the region will also benefit as the program will bring increased employment and investment opportunities.
