The UAE’s Naseba Global WIL Economic Forum, an organisation that promotes diversity as a stepping stone for economic development, has partnered with UAE broadcaster MBC to launch a short film competition for women.

This forum, which is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, United Arab Emirates, is collaborating with MBC Al Amal, the corporate social responsibility arm of MBC, to launch the Best Short Film Competition for Women’s Economic Empowerment.

“We are looking for films of any genre – fiction, documentary, animation, etc – that challenge gender stereotypes, celebrate women or promote inclusion. The competition is open globally to all established and aspiring film makers,” the organisation stated in an official release.

To enter, filmmakers need to submit a short film of between two to 15 minutes highlighting their perspective on women, challenge gender stereotypes or promote inclusion. The films can take the form of an essay, a documentary or fictional narrative, but they must be original: the submissions must be unlisted or private on Vimeo or YouTube.

The creator of the winning film will be presented with an award by the UAE Ministry of Economy at the Global WIL Achievement Awards. The winning film will be shown during the forum’s opening ceremony, and the winner will have the opportunity to make their work available for free on several media platforms the week following the forum.
