In a historic milestone for the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), Nora Al Matrooshi, the nation's first female astronaut, is poised to graduate from NASA's prestigious training program on March 5th in Houston, Texas, confirmed by NASA officials on Wednesday.
Al Matrooshi, a distinguished Emirati mechanical engineer, alongside her colleague Mohammed Al Mulla, a former Dubai Police helicopter pilot, will be among 13 graduates comprising NASA's astronaut class of 2023. This graduation marks their eligibility for future space missions, including potential journeys to the International Space Station (ISS) and participation in upcoming U.S.-led endeavors such as those planned under NASA's Artemis program, aimed at lunar exploration.
Since commencing their rigorous training at the Johnson Space Centre in 2021, the candidates have undergone extensive preparation in various disciplines, from land survival techniques to spacesuit operations and geology field training, all crucial for space missions.
