iOS 15.4 and watchOS 8.5 have a new tool that enables users to restore the Apple Watch firmware wirelessly via their iPhone.

Apple Watch lacks user-accessible data ports, which makes it harder for users to repair it in case of any firmware fails. Fortunately, iOS 15.4 and watchOS 8.5 have a new tool that enables users to restore the Apple Watch firmware wirelessly via their iPhone.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple updated its support page on Monday, shortly after releasing iOS 15.4 and watchOS 8.5 to the public. The update includes instructions on what consumers should do if their Apple Watch stops working. While the original version of the article directed customers to contact Apple Support to arrange for a mail-in repair, the updated version discloses that users may be able to restore the Apple Watch firmware themselves.

If your Apple Watch becomes unresponsive for any reason (for example, during the update process), an alert will appear on your iPhone requesting that you restore the Apple Watch.

But, both the iPhone and Apple Watch must be running the most recent versions of iOS and watchOS, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your iPhone must be enabled. During the process, the Apple Watch must be charged, and the user must press the side button twice to begin the restore process.

Even with the new tool, the company admits that it may not be able to recover your Apple Watch. In this case, the watch will display a red exclamation mark icon, requiring you to take it to an Apple Store or authorized repair shop.
