It has recently come to light that WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging platform, has started rolling out its much-awaited and popular feature “multi-device support” for beta testers. The new development by WhatsApp is currently a limited public beta test. WhatsApp has been developing the feature for quite some time now.
WABetaInfo, a popular website that pushes regular updates around the app, states that WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop and Portal can work without an active Internet connection on your mobile phone. This first version of multi-device does not support another additional phone, but it’s possible they will provide the support in the future.
With the multi-device support, It’s possible to link up to 4 devices to your WhatsApp account. If you want to know whether you’re eligible to receive this feature, just open WhatsApp Web/Desktop Settings from your iPhone or Android device and, if the feature is enabled for your WhatsApp account, you can see a new row called “Multi-device beta”. You need to be a member of the Beta program.
In other related news, WhatsApp beta users are currently testing a brand new feature where attached images or videos disappear after one viewing - very similar to Snaps on Snapchat.
The feature lets WhatsApp users send a photograph or video that will be deleted after being watched. The feature has been unrolled to WhatsApp beta testers on Android and it plans to expand the feature to the general public if successful.
