Mashable: As per the report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently testing of a novel setting in call privacy, namely "Protect IP address in calls."
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new security attribute that will enable users to impede the tracking of their location through their IP address during a call. As per the report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently testing of a novel setting in call privacy, namely "Protect IP address in calls."
This feature is designed to enhance the security of users' location during a WhatsApp call by directing the call through WhatsApp's servers, thereby making it arduous for individuals to track their location. The report states that this new option functions as a privacy relay feature for calls, which securely relays through WhatsApp servers, making it challenging for participants in the call to deduce the user's location.
As regards its accessibility, WhatsApp has not yet issued an official declaration regarding the feature. However, Wabetainfo was the first to detect the feature during its testing phase, which was initially observed in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.15 update. Consequently, it is probable that the feature will be incorporated in an upcoming application update.
WhatsApp is also currently in the process of developing a new feature that will allow its users to modify the captions of previously sent photos, videos, GIFs, and documents. Previously, users were only able to edit text messages, but it seems that the developers are expanding the functionality of the feature to encompass captions.
According to reports, the edited media caption seems to be an extension of WhatsApp's message editing capability, which was initially launched for users in May 2023. This upgraded functionality enables users to alter photos, videos, GIFs, and documents within a 15-minute timeframe after sending them.
