Mashable: This comes after, WhatsApp recently rolled out more privacy controls for the Profile Photo, About, Status, and Last Seen.

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to restrict who can see their online status. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature that would allow users to hide their online status. The privacy settings that allow users to control who can see them when they're using the app were revealed by the site on Saturday. The addition of this feature would go hand in hand with recent updates to WhatsApp's Last Seen functionality.

According to WABetaInfo, there will be two new choices for controlling who sees your online status, namely everyone and same as last seen. Everybody in your contact list will be able to see when you're online, as the name implies.

Choosing "Same as last seen" will prevent non-contacts from seeing your online status. You may even choose who in your contact list sees your status by going into your contact list and selecting the people you want to share it with.

You may choose who sees your status via the new "My Contacts except" option, which allows you to hide it from specific individuals.

Your status can be hidden from everyone, even if they are not on your contact list, by choosing the "Nobody" option, which will prohibit anyone from seeing your status.

WhatsApp has not yet released any information about when this feature will be accessible in a beta test, so you can't try it out just yet.

This comes after WhatsApp recently rolled out more privacy controls for the Profile Photo, About, Status, and Last Seen settings after previewing the feature in beta last April. The new update introduces a "My Contacts Except" option that gives you far more granular control over these settings than before.
