In show of protest on the way the Ministry of Information (MOI) reported the detention of the two Reuters journalists, the Yangon Journalism School has announced that it would suspend the training program it would give to a news outlet run by the ministry.
“We are not happy the way the MOI reported the arrest of the two journalists,” said U Ye Naing Moe, founder of the Yangon-based journalism school.
Thursday’s issue of state-run Myanmar Ahlin, Kyaymon and the English-language Global New Light of Myanmar did not conceal the faces of the two journalists, which angered local journalists, including U Thiha, a trainer at the YJS.
“We are very much disappointed at the way the MOI reported the detention of the two journalists. They did not even conceal their faces when they published their pictures. We question the MOI’s attitude towards the non-state media organizations,” U Thiha, a trainer at YJS posted on his social media.
The papers, however, did not publish the pictures of the two policemen who were arrested with the journalists.
He said the school was to provide two trainers to teach basic journalism to the Myanmar Digital News, but now the plan is being suspended.
