The Bengali Language Movement (i.e. Ekushey February 1952) marked a profound event in Bangladesh history. What began as a mere student protest, led to a historical movement in attempts to acknowledge Bangla as an official language. This movement eventually helped Bangladesh independence through the Bangladesh Liberation War (1971).

In order to uphold the significance of the history of Ekushey February for the Bangla language, the Thikana Newspaper’s journey began in February 21, 1990 in order to commemorate this renowned event in time.
