Abu Dhabi Radio, the pioneer within the Abu Dhabi radio network, was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, "may God have mercy on him" in 1969, and is one of the oldest radio stations in the Gulf. The radio has the advantage of having the largest radio library with recordings and data in the Arab Gulf states, including the most important historical events of the United Arab Emirates. It also has the distinction of being the first Arab radio station specialized in broadcasting live sporting events and matches.
