The independent news agency was launched on October 4, 2003, as the first independent Mauritanian news agency to reflect the emergence of a qualitative leap in the form and content that marked the beginning of a new and ambitious phase in the independent Mauritanian media in general and electronic in particular.

Despite the difficulty of the situation in the country during that period and the following, and the reflection of these situations directly on the performance of the press has maintained the "news" on the continuity of services, quality and balanced line and based on honesty, impartiality and objectivity in the transfer of news, and speed in providing.

In a record period of more than one year, Al-Akhbar received the confidence of the Mauritanian public at home and abroad.
