The aufbruch first appeared in 1988 in response to the conflict over Chur Bishop Wolfgang Haas and saw itself as a forum for an open church. Even today, he is interested in what is breaking up at the fringes of denominations and religions, and makes a strong case for a lived ecumenism. He is involved in dealing with people of other religions and is socio-critical presence, where it comes to Christian values. The aufbruch covers a wide range of religious and social topics 6 times a year: spirituality and religious issues, ecumenism and interfaith dialogue, opportunities and crises of the churches, social coexistence, social justice, ecology and the economy.
