On December 18, 1869, the first issue of Blekinge Läns Tidning was released in a time of malnutrition, social dissatisfaction and increasing emigrant flows to America. Editor F.A. Blomqvist emphasized his newspaper's liberal attitude. Over the years, the newspaper often caused resentment in the conservative Karlskrona through this liberal opposition stance. Today's BLT calls itself an independent liberal newspaper, which at the headquarters still wants to make an opinion. In 1911, BLT developed into a limited liability company with SEK 25,000 in share capital. At that time, BLT had a circulation of approximately 3,500 newspapers. Since 1974, the newspaper is owned by the Barometer Foundation, which in 1991 formed the Sydostpress AB Group in which BLT is its own magazine. Today, it is part of the collaboration Gota Media AB. Today, the newspapers have a circulation of about 33,000 newspapers (2012). On September 5, 1991, BLT switched to tabloid format.
