During the war of 1940 the publication of the newspaper "Théâtra Revue", of which the publisher was Jean Leempoel, was interrupted. After these difficult years, the two men decided to revive the newspaper under a new formula that would make dream all Belgium but also other countries.
To this end, Jean Leempoel hired Joe Van Cottom as editor and on October 13, 1944, they founded "Théâtra Ciné Revue" which, very quickly, became "Ciné Revue". The success of the new magazine was immediate. This Belgian weekly was quickly established in several foreign countries and mainly in France.
The two men's idea of genius was to focus the magazine on American cinema and send Joe Van Cottom regularly to Hollywood. He was one of the first European journalists to land on the other side of the Atlantic and the Americans rolled out the "red carpet". This allowed him to meet the greatest movie stars of the time such as Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney, Robert Mitchum, Spencer Tracy, Kirk Douglas, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and many other sacred monsters some of whom were his friends. CINE REVUE dreamed of entire generations by telling in its pages the extraordinary life of the greatest stars of the cinema.
