The Diss Mercury and its sister paper the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury were launched in 1984, the Diss paper emerging in place of the old South Norfolk News and the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury from the Wymondham section of the Norwich Mercury. It didn't take long for the papers to make their mark with the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury being voted the best free newspaper in Britain in 1988
