The Guangming Daily was founded on December 18, 1987. In 1986, the "Star Pen Daily" issued in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula was forced to suspend publication due to the financial crisis. A group of journalists and enthusiastic Chinese businessmen founded the Guangming Daily with the ideal of inheriting the "Star Pen Daily" to serve the Chinese community in the northern part of the peninsula.
