The Küsnachter Dorfpost newspaper was founded in 1855 as the first offshoot of the cantonal trade association founded in 1831. Küsnacht was at that time a village with less than 2500 inhabitants, in which there was neither a railway nor an actual industry. The fact that Küsnacht was small and manageable did not prevent a local industry from doing great things. In 1945 Dr. Erhard Mettler in Küsnacht a precision engineering company. This resulted in Mettler Toledo, one of today's world market leaders in metrology.
