The News-Herald was originally created with the merging of the Sellersville Herald and the Perkasie Central-News in November 1943.

The Perkasie Central News was founded in 1881 by Mahlon Sellers and purchased by the Baum family in 1914 from Charles Meredith. In 1998, the Baum family sold the paper to Montgomery Newspapers, its current owner.
