Radio Star Herzele 106.5 is 24/7 radio in Belgium. On 12 March 1982, a group of 5 people founded the VZW STAR: Hervé and Adriaan Bauwens from Vlierzele together with Karel Daem, Dirk Dierickx and Marie-Jeanne De Vuyst from Sint-Lievens-Esse. The very first antenna was in the Kauwstraat near the café de Tramstatie or "at Mietjen" as they called it then. Radio Star was in the beginning a weekend channel that broadcasted on Friday from 16 to 24 hours, on Saturday from 8 to 3 hours and on Sunday from 8 to 24 hours. The equipment was very simple with 2 turntables, two cassette players and a mixing table. The broadcasts all happened live from a small cabin at the back of the cafe. It could be very cold in the studio at that time, where your fingers could almost freeze on the plates.
