Established in 1886 and continuously published since that time, The Ledger has been a daily, twice weekly and now is a weekly newspaper serving Ballinger, Runnels County and the surrounding areas. Since 2002 The Ledger has been a part of American Consolidated Media. In 2014, the newspaper was acquired by New Media Investment Group, one of the largest owners of newspapers in the country.
