The "schaffhauser az" appeared on November 30, 1918, for the first time under the name "Arbeiter-Zeitung". She is a child of the general strike, who had to be broken off 14 days before the first number was published without success.Stormy continued in the following decades: First, the "az" was an SP newspaper, then a communist. In 1935 they landed again in the lap of the SP.Until 1997, the az was a daily newspaper. Financial reasons - not the first in their 90-year history - forced the conversion of the "az" into a weekly newspaper.Since 1996 "schaffhauser az" has been published by az Verlag AG. It has a share capital of 435,000 francs. The approximately 50 shareholders are close to the SP. Although the "schaffhauser az" is no longer the official party organ of the Schaffhauser SP, it still sees itself as a newspaper that stands to the left of the middle and takes sides.
