Description
The responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in science and higher education is a topic of widespread debate and concern, especially with the arrival of ChatGPT and other similar tools. In this context, the University of Lisbon shares important knowledge and considerations with its community, including teachers, researchers, technical and administrative staff and students.
Banning the use of AI would be ineffective. Rather, we need to adopt approaches so that these tools are used effectively and appropriately, in alignment with the mission, objectives and values of the University. The University of Lisbon encourages discussion about the immediate consequences of AI on learning and teaching, research and innovation, as well as the broader role of the University in relation to the impact of AI on society. The aim is to monitor the development of these technologies, consult with experts and share advice and best practices as the use of artificial intelligence tools evolves.
Topics: Sources of information; data and algorithms; intellectual property and copyright; privacy; data security; equity; efficiency and productivity; teaching, learning and assessment; interdisciplinarity and new ways of working.
