Social media users in UAE urged to avoid posting offensive content on social media
A sports media personality has been ordered to be arrested by the Abu Dhabi public prosecution for posting discriminatory comment on social media.
The man had violated anti-hatred and anti-discrimination laws in UAE, using social media to upload a discriminatory tweet on his Twitter page, according to the Abu Dhabi public prosecution.
The prosecution made it clear that the UAE had laid down strict boundaries to prevent such behaviour, which could incite hatred and disorder in the country - known for its diverse population residing in the country.
UAE is recognised in the world for its rule of law and its success in providing legal protection to all members of the society regardless of their beliefs and backgrounds, the prosecution added.
The public prosecution of Abu Dhabi has called upon social media users in the country to not use platforms to post content that could harm the society, and asked them to be wary and cautious when composing, publishing or sending any word, phrase, signs, drawings, symbols, audio and video recordings that is offensive in nature.
The prosecution added that the case is of importance as the accused is a public figure - a media man with influence - and his comments may influence many of his followers.
