Mashable: Google is rolling out a feature that can call local businesses on your behalf. The tool can gather information such as pricing and availability without you needing to get on a call. The feature is currently available to users in the U.S., with broader access for subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.

The tech giant began testing the feature in January this year, and it’s still only available for certain kinds of businesses, like pet groomers, dry cleaners, and auto shops. The feature builds on Google’s earlier Duplex technology, but it’s now paired with the company’s latest Gemini AI model. When users search for services like “pet groomers near me,” they’ll see a new option: “Have AI check pricing.” Once selected, Google will prompt users to fill out a short form with details like the type of service, preferred timing, and how they’d like to receive updates—via email or text. After gathering the inputs, the AI makes the call, introduces itself as a Google bot, and collects the requested information.

The results are then sent back to the user in a simplified format. Google says the feature is designed to save time and reduce friction in everyday tasks, especially for users who prefer not to make phone calls. Businesses can opt out of receiving AI calls through their Google Business Profile settings. Although the feature is now generally available, Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will receive “higher limits” that allow them to use the feature more frequently.
