With the art and design season officially upon us, the region’s art scene is in full bloom, from World Art Dubai to Art Dubai 2021, the region is covered in hues of creativity and talent.
Rightly so, many art centres and corners in the city have been conducting many workshops and holding events to boost the creative scene of the region. One such centre is Warehouse421, located at Mina Zayed Port of Abu Dhabi.
Warehouse421, a home-grown arts and design centre has been showcasing and nurturing creative production across the region for many years now. And now with the world going digital, the centre has launched its virtual experience and online programming introducing a series of video lessons, podcasts, book readings, community talks and curatorial tours, enabling audiences to remotely engage with regional narratives in art and design.
Started on March 25, the centre launched its first episode of conversation ‘Art and Artists in Times of Disruption’ talking about the current interruptions in the local art ecosystem and the various ways that livelihood in the arts can continue during times of disruption.
With that, the centre now announces its Spring public program that started from April onwards. The Spring program will open with a new exhibition titled ‘Total Landscaping’ curated by Murtaza Vali. The program will also include a diverse selection of workshops like –Makhtout that will aim to experiment with utilising design principles found in Arabic-Islamicate manuscripts in contemporary graphic design, how to make your own pinhole camera, an Adventure in Mapping Exploration and observation among others.
There will be an intimate workshop on where participants network mindfully and examine the biases, assumptions, or defences they often carry into social interactions. Talks on documentation ‘Absolute Egypt’, conversations with Mahshid Rafiei and Jean-Paul Kelly, various panel discussions and much more, all accessible online for everyone.
Additionally, a new version of Jam’atna will return this Ramadan led by Nahla Tabbaa called ‘Time, Synchrony, and The Divine’. The series of the four online Suhoor Happenings will explore the communal spirit of Ramadan in a multi-dimensional way.
