Abu Dhabi’s Warehouse421 announces the recipients of the Artistic Development Exhibition Programme

Artists Ammar Al Attar, Jill Magi and Mohammed Khalid have been shortlisted for the programme.

Abu Dhabi based arts and design centre Warehouse421 has announced the recipients of its inaugural Artistic Development Exhibition Programme.

The centre which is dedicated to showcasing and nurturing creative production across the region have selected the artists for its 2021/2022 edition.

Artists Ammar Al Attar, Jill Magi and Mohammed Khalid have been shortlisted for the programme, who will work with art educators and curators towards producing a new body of work that will go on view at the Warehouse421 space in Mina Zayed in 2022.

Al Attar is an Ajman-born photographer and mixed media artist who practices documents Emirati material culture, as well its place in an ever-changing society.

Magi is an artist, critic, and educator whose work is rooted in poetry and literature. She has shown her text-image works on textile at the university’s Project Space gallery in 2015.

The youngest of the three, Khalid is an artist who excavates every day to find hidden narratives and speculative identities and his work ranges from drawings to sculpture.

The Artistic Development Exhibition Programme which is part of Warehouse421’s new five-year plan for public programming has been launched in collaboration with The Institute for Emerging Art.

Recipients of the programme will be awarded Dh10,000 as a participation fee along with a Dh24,000 production fee, in addition to a solo exhibition in 2022.

The program aims to provide opportunities to UAE-based artists with rigorous and sustained practices. It will also encourage artists to think deeply about the reception of their work in a public institution and the connection, communication, and multidimensional interaction with their communities.

The Artistic Development Exhibition Programme is one of a series of open calls from Warehouse421 in 2021, besides the Artistic Research Grant, the Curatorial Developmental Exhibition Programme, Warehouse421 Homebound Residency Programme, and the Internship and Mentorship Programme.
