India, unfortunately, is on its way of having the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the entire world. With 14.3 million cases, it has already surpassed Brazil and breached the 2-lakh daily cases mark. And while various state governments has imposed lockdown-like restrictions and stricter curfews in places like Maharashtra Delhi and Bengaluru, there are parts in the country that are seeing maskless mobs gather in hundreds. Be it the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand or the election rallies in West Bengal, the government is surprisingly (not really) callous and convenient about flouting of COVID-19 norms.
But nothing changes the fact that India’s healthcare infrastructure has collapsed leaving our healthcare workers exhausted, fatigued and not to mention, at a high risk of infection. We are not just not running out of beds in the hospitals but we are also running out of hours in a day when the medical community isn’t risking their life to save COVID-19 patients. Now, it is true that some superheroes wear scrubs and not capes. But sometimes we forget, that they are humans too who deserve better than the overworked fate they are facing now.
In fact, A Twitter user recently penned a thread about the same, highlighting the plight of the healthcare workers and it is eye-opening to say the least. Vandana Mahajan who is a mental health professional herself, had found herself in the hospital for a week after contracting Coronavirus. And it is there she interacted with the team of doctors and nurses who work tirelessly. From staying away from family to living in a PPE kit and from no bathroom breaks to going without food/water for hours to avoid going to the bathroom, her observations are heart-breaking.
While these COVID warriors march on, there is a sect of COVID-idiots who are taking part in cow dung fights. Yes, you read that right and you can find more below.
